The DK Group began with Thomas H. DiGiorgio, Sr., A.I.A., NCARB, as the principal founder. He received his education at the Drexel Institute of Technology (Architecture) in 1952, was employed by Philadelphia architects; Mansell, McHettigan, Fugate & Rapp until 1961 when he was invited to become a full partner in the prestigious Philadelphia firm of Louis & Henry Magaziner.  In 1963 the firm was renamed Magaziner and DiGiorgio. In 1966, Edward E. Kirkbride, A.I.A. joined the partnership and the firm name was again changed to Magaziner, DiGiorgio & Kirkbride, A.I.A. With the retirement of Henry Magaziner in 1970, the firm became DiGiorgio & Kirkbride, A.I.A., continuing  to do major projects for clients such as Ford Motor Company, the School Districts of Philadelphia, West Chester, Bensalem and Upper Darby, Pennsylvania.

 In 1970, DiGiorgio was elected as President of the Philadelphia chapter of the Construction Specification Institute. While in Philadelphia, DiGiorgio was a consultant to the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority (3 years), and a special consultant to the Philadelphia City Solicitor’s office as an expert witness on over 200 construction related cases. Further, he made numerous appearances as an arbitrator connected with construction disputes for American Arbitration Association, Philadelphia office.

 

“DK Architects” relocated to Florida in 1977 and became a “Sub-Chapter S” corporation with Thomas H. DiGiorgio as the major stockholder and CEO. He continued his relationship with the American Arbitration Association’s Miami office, serving as a panel member and also as an individual arbitrator on numerous construction disputes. His attendance at Continuing Education Seminars sponsored by A.A.A. (American Arbitration Association) qualifies him as a current, active panel member.

 At this time, DiGiorgio’s firm continues to satisfy such prestigious repetitive clients as McDonald’s Corporation, Dunkin’ Donuts, Wendy’s, W.W. Grainger Company and T.G.I.F. Restaurants, Metzger Family Industries and AMB Property Management currently with active projects in Florida and Georgia. In addition to the registrations carried in the above states, DiGiorgio is certified and has completed major projects in Indiana, Texas, Minnesota, Alabama, Mississippi, Indiana, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Illinois, New York, Delaware, North Carolina and South Carolina. He is also a certified special inspector performing inspections/certifications during various stages of building construction, in place of the municipal building inspector.  DiGiorgio has conducted 4 point inspections as required by Broward County.

 
The team at DK Architects is also led by Andre Capi, who has been with the firm since 1989. He is currently the Director of Architecture and managing partner. He received his Masters Degree at the Tulane School of Architecture, New Orleans, LA. He coordinates our planning, design and design-build projects and is responsible for quality control, facilitated by his extensive knowledge of building codes, Planning and Zoning ordinances and permit processes nationwide. He recently obtained leed certification and is leading the company's environmental and sustainable initiative.

 While his experience ranges from industrial to residential, there has been an emphasis on hospitality projects. He is responsible for developing prototype restaurant documents and has successfully completed hundreds of restaurant projects in the past 20 years.

In 2007, the D Cay Group was formed as the Construction Management firm in the DK group of companies. This began as a concept from a childhood friendship between Thomas DiGiorgio Jr and Edward Dougherty.

Thomas DiGiorgio Jr graduated from the University of Florida in Gainesville, With 20 years of experience as a development coordinator and project manager for numerous major projects across the United States, Thomas H. DiGiorgio, Jr. is recognized as an expert in his field. His areas of expertise include: Project Management, with state of the art knowledge of the latest materials and techniques of construction, administration, construction documentation, design and field inspection, estimating and project supervision.  As a state certified General Contractor, Mr. DiGiorgio has been providing field inspections and construction observation for many different types of projects to ensure that the buildings are being constructed in accordance with plans and specifications.  He is responsible for field coordination, solving problems as they arise, approving payment requests and approving shop drawings.  In addition, he has had several years of hand's on building experience as a developer where has changed the landscape of Pompano Beach, Florida with luxury projects such as Conch key Villas. He is also a partner in the Marlows Tavern restaurant chains. He has a vital passion for economic growth throughout the US.


Edward Dougherty
began with DK architects 20 years ago. His initial responsibility was to introduce and initiate Computer Technology and computer programming to DK Architects/planners, Inc.  Prior to becoming a member of the DK staff, he accumulated a wealth of experience in educational facilities with architects in Pennsylvania and Florida. His continuous desire to expand his expertise has led to years of experience within the construction field, where he served as a project manager for several years. He has coordinated large projects such as the Gordon Food Service Warehouse in Miami to the small build outs in Mizner Park to affordable housing projects throughout Southeast Florida.
